The Denman & District Heritage Village concept was developed at the inaugural meeting of almost 40 interested members of the community in Denman in November 2006 by Mr. Jeff Wolfgang, a member of a landholding family with a long standing history in the region.
The mutual interest of the group was the establishment of a site to house the antique and historical collection of items donated or loaned to the “village” by groups and individuals to provide a lasting display for future generations to learn about the culture and heritage of our regional area. The project would also be of significant interest to tourists and visitors and generate income to the town and provide an educational facility for our school children.
The local Wanaruah Aboriginal Land Council and the Hunter Valley Aboriginal Corporation have been invited to join us and to have a display area for Aboriginal artifacts and educational information as the original owners of the land.
We envisage that this will be a long term project possibly spanning 5 -10 years to establish and thereafter be held in trust by this association or similar group in the Upper Hunter area “in perpetuity” for the people of Denman.
